YOU Be the Judge
On February 16-18, 2012, several hundred homeschool high school students will gather at Christchurch Baptist Fellowship, for an exciting three day speech and debate tournament. Sponsored by the National Christian Forensics and Communication Association, the Texas National Open is one of three 2012 national open competitions in which students from around the country have the opportunity to qualify directly to the national championship tournament. Students compete in ten different speech events and two styles of debate events.
Our debate topics have to do with reforming the criminal justice system.
Because the league trains teenagers to communicate with people from all walks of life, we need judges from the community who may or may not have any experience judging speech or debate. Although we also use NCFCA alumni and parents to judge, we depend on the community judge to evaluate the students from a fresh, "everyman" perspective.
No Experience Is Required
We are faced with the monumental task of finding over 800 judges to evaluate our competitors. We need you! It`s a 2 1/2 to 3-hour time commitment, which includes arriving at the hospitality room (where we will feed you delicious refreshments), a short orientation, the 1 1/2 hour round, and filling out a ballot in the hospitality room afterwards.
