As you may be aware, our entry road has been deteriorating quickly. We
are beginning a fund-raising drive to repair the road and possibly
repave the entire road if we can raise enough. Those of us who drive
over the potholes each day are anxious to save our tires and suspensions!
We spent over $6,000 two years ago to repave the front section near the
gate and the potholes that were bad at that time. We have been filling
the new potholes since that time with crushed concrete. This has held
fairly well as long as we were in a drought, but now that we seem to be
returning to the usual Houston weather this solution is not working. In
fact, the grinding action of the rocks along with the constant erosion
of the rain seems to be digging the holes deeper than they ever were.
We have received a bid to repair/repave the road. We have several choices:
$5,000 - Repair the current potholes only
$10,000 - Repair current potholes and widen front segment (up the to
"Y") to two lanes
$20,000 - Repair potholes and repave the entire road system
Note that none of these options include a paved parking area.
If you happen to know someone who can give us a better bid, please let
Elise know!
We also have the option to purchase patch material and just patch the
holes temporarily. This would be much less expensive, but it would also
be a very short-term solution. We all know how long such patches
typically last - especially with heavy use.
Since the damage to the road system has been caused by our own extensive
use, this is not an expense that the property owners should be
responsible for.
If you would like to donate to this cause, please make a check to EE and
turn it in the Jennifer, Elise or one of the House Managers. As soon as
we reach $5,000 we will begin repairing the potholes. If we go beyond
that amount, we will tackle the other segments as we are able.
EE IS A 501c3 ORGANIZATION, SO ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE. ;-)
Thank you so much for your help and support!
