Subject: First 2012 Meeting - Gamma
From: t s <hshonorsociety@gmail.com>

This school term's first meeting is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Tomball Community Library, Room L129, 30555 Tomball Parkway.   The meeting will feature Dr. John Mark Reynolds, provost of HBU and former founder and 17 year director of the Torrey Honors Institute at Biola University, who will speak on Christian leadership through service. Dr. Reynolds will be joined by Mr. Kendrick Skipper, owner of two area Chick-fil-A restaurants, who will speak on Christian principles and ethics in business.  There will be opportunities for questions and comments following each gentleman's talk.  Both our speakers are very successful in living out their faith through their professions and will have wonderful insight to share!  We encourage each of you to attend and have attached a flyer that may be helpful in inviting friends to the meeting and to join Gamma this year.   Activities are always more fun when we share them with our friends!

In His Service,

Mrs. Strack

Chinese Camp & Fall Class

Would you like to introduce your child to one of the most widely spoken
languages in the world?

Extraordinary Education will be offering two camps called "Chinese Toys"
the week of August 6-10. "Chinese Toys" is an introductory Chinese
language camp for students ages 5-8 or 8-12. In this active camp
students will be introduced to the Chinese language and culture through
playing with and creating different kinds of toys. Students will learn
basic greetings, cultural courtesy and language associated with the
toys. The camp instructor is a native Chinese speaker.

Starting this fall, we will also begin offering Chinese 1 as a foreign
language option for ages 6th-up. The text book for this course is the
same as The Woodlands High School Chinese course. The instructor is a
native Chinese speaker.

Both the camps and the class are taught by staff from the Center for
Chinese Education. Register at the links below.

Mock Trial Camp at HBU

Extraordinary Education is helping sponsor the Mock Trial Camp taking place next week at HBU. My son attended last year and loved it!
Karen will also be leading a Mock Trial "Mock Day" on Friday, September 21 at the EE campus. This is for any student who wants to find out what mock trial is all about. If you can't make it to camp, we hope you will bring your student to explore the mock trial world on EE Mock Day.

The CITE Academy/HBU Mock Trial camp is almost full!  This camp is a wonderful, fun vehicle to learn important critical thinking and communication skills.  As homeschoolers we often spend a lot of time teaching 5 paragraph essays.  Writing is an incredibly important skill but the reality is that with the advent of cell phones and instant communication, verbal skills are paramount.  The Mock Trial camp is a great training ground for these skills!

Training in Mock Trial can also open opportunities for a college activity or scholarships.  Most universities participate in Mock Trial.  In our area University of Texas, A & M, Houston Baptist, Rice, St. Thomas, U of H, SMU, Baylor, etc.  all have Mock Trial teams.  You may register at  http://www.citeacademy.com/Cite_Camp/Mock_Trial.html    See flyer below for details.

EE Teaching Positions Open

Extraordinary Education is currently looking for a few extraordinary teachers to complete our staffing needs for the fall. The teachers who were lined up for these classes have had some personal/family situations come up that have caused them to have to bow out.

I am also looking for someone to take a few of my personal class obligations due to an increase in administration needs at EE. With the possible addition of dual credit classes and other program growth I just need more time to devote to program development.

If you or someone you know would be interested in a teaching position, please have them contact us at extraed@att.net and also complete the application on our website. We will set up an appointment for an interview. ( http://www.extraed.net/new_teacher_application )
Note that teachers are contracted to teach individual classes and pay rate (or co-op credit) is dependent on enrollment.

Thanks for your help in getting the word out!
