Announcing The Academy at Houston Baptist University!

A brand new, dual-enrollment program designed specifically for home schoolers
The Academy at Houston Baptist University exists to extend the challenge and rewards of university style classes to Houston area home school students, providing them with the opportunity to earn transferable college credit along the way. Each class is designed to immerse the student in an essential era or theme in western history, literature, philosophy and culture through reading of the original texts that shaped the world.

This January, we will be launching classes in two locations: Houston Baptist University Campus on Mondays and Wednesdays, and at Extraordinary Education in Magnolia, TX on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will be hosting our first informational session for our North Houston site in Magnolia on Tuesday, November 13th at 7pm at Extraordinary Education, 9522 Carraway Lane, Magnolia, 777354. Each class can earn the student 3 units of transferable college credit from Houston Baptist University.  More importantly, each student will be mentored and educated in a deeply Christian class, designed specifically for high school students. All classes are great books based and conducted in the Socratic Style.

This Spring we will be offering Reform, Romance, and Revolutions and Writing and Rhetoric I at the HBU campus on Mondays & Wednesdays.
Politics, Science and the Development of the Modern Mind and Warriors Heroes and Sagas will be offered at Extraordinary Education on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are also considering offering a great books-based theater class - Playwrights, Actors and the Theater: From Page to Stage at Extraordinary Education on Thursday evenings. This class will put on a theater production at the end of the semester.

At The Academy, we don’t believe in busy work, lecturing, or that tests are the most important part of education. Our classes are Christian, classical, Socratic, and centered on engaging our students in the great conversation as it has existed throughout history, and as it continues today.
