In return for your help you will be able to take some of the wood with you.

Chain saws with: 16in, 20in or 27in bar

Square Shovels

Safety items: gloves, goggles, ear plugs /ear mufflers, dust mask.

Field Trip for January 2012 - CYT "Annie"

We have another great field trip opportunity to see a school-day show of CYT’s production of Annie Jr at the Crighton Theatre in Conroe.  The show we are selecting for our field trip is Friday, January 20^th at noon.  All tickets are $5 each.  If you are interested in attending, please do one of the following:

Economics Seminar for High School Students

The event takes place in the Ballroom of the Hilton Houston Post Oak, 2001 Post Oak Blvd, in Houston.   For accommodations at the Hilton Post Oak or directions, call 713-961-9300 before January 3 and mention the Mises Institute for a special rate of $129 plus tax per night.   Self-parking at the Hilton is available at $6 for January 13 and $13 for valet (overnight is more).   Attire is casual.

A limited Mises Bookstore will be open on January 13 during this seminar, with an expanded selection at the Mises Circle in the same location on January 14.  Discount coupons will be available at the high-school seminar for students who wish to return and shop at the expanded Mises Bookstore on January 14.  

Students are also welcome to attend the Mises Circle on January 14.  Pre-registration is required.

Awards for EE students at Model UN Conference

Two of our Extraordinary Education students, Karina Brisack and Max Wilson, participated this past  weekend on "Team Strada" at MUNSA (Model United Nations San Antonio). Team Strada was awarded Best Small Delegation at the event! Small delegations were teams with 19 or less members, and Team Strada participated with seven delegates. Max Wilson represented Lithuania in the General Assembly, submitted a position paper on and debated the following topics: Analyzing the Effects of Globalization as it Relates to Chronic Poverty, and Discussing an Efficient Way of Stabilizing Inflation within International Trade Karina Brisack represented Lichtenstein in the Disarmament Committee, submitted a position paper on and debated the following topics: Considering Measures to Regulate the Implementation of Biological and Chemical Weapons, and Discussing the Control of Ammunition Stockpiling There were over 700 high school delegates at the MUNSA conference including teams from Mexico. This was a great experience for Karina and Max. They are currently preparing to attend HAMUN - a high school Model UN conference in  Houston, Texas in February. Younger students, fourth to eighth grades, may participate in a Model United Nations at GEMUN held in May. Information about GEMUN may be found at  http://www.unol.org/gemun/. Henri Anslinger is the winner of our Thanksgiving Pie Fundraiser. He
sold 20 pies! Henri and his classmates will be having an ice cream
party in class next week to celebrate!

Since the Thanksgiving Pie Fundraiser was such a success we are going to
do it again for Christmas. If you have any comments or suggestions
regarding the fundraiser, please let us know. You will have to have
your pie orders turned in by the 15th. Look for new order forms to be
distributed next week in your mailslots.

Spring 2012 Schedule Changes!

Dear extraordinary families, 

It's that time of year again - Christmas celebrations, special activities, holiday travels and the beginning of a new year. It's also the time many families decide to make changes to their schedules. With this in mind, we would like to make parents aware of the EE class change policies so that you can plan accordingly.

CLASS CHANGE PROCEDURES

• CLASS CHANGES MADE DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER must be made IN PERSON with the Office Manager. ONLINE DROPS will not be possible beginning DECEMBER 1st.
• Please go to the EE WEBSITE to make a "PAYMENT & PAPERWORK" APPOINTMENT if you need to make changes to your child's schedule. Here is the link: http://www.extraed.net/office_appointments
• PLEASE DO NOT JUST "DROP BY" THE OFFICE HOPING TO "CATCH SOMEONE". PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!!!

DROP POLICIES

• There is a $10 CLASS CHANGE FEE for all DROPS and CLASS CHANGES unless initiated by EE.
• JANUARY TUITION AND SPRING SUPPLY FEES WILL BE DUE for all classes in which your child is enrolled as of DECEMBER 15th. All Spring Semester DROPS and CHANGES to your child's schedule must be received in our office PRIOR to DECEMBER 15th if you wish to avoid paying Spring Semester Supply Fees and January Tuition.
• For class drops processed during DECEMBER 1st-14th, parents will have the option to enroll their child in a replacement class and transfer the pre-paid May tuition to the new class. This is the only time of year when pre-paid May tuition may be transferred to another class.
• If you simply drop a class and do not replace it with another class, your pre-paid May tuition is not refundable.
• Parents are expected to DISCUSS any concerns they have about a class or the curriculum with the TEACHER prior to dropping a class. If your concerns cannot be resolved with the teacher, you are asked to bring your concerns to the Director before dropping a class.
• If you have concerns or issues with another student in the class, you are expected to discuss your concerns with the teacher AND with the Director prior to dropping the class.

CLASS CANCELLATION POLICIES
Several classes are currently in danger of being canceled for the spring semester. A few class changes are due to the teacher's personal schedule. In most cases, however, drops during the fall semester have left the class with such a small enrollment that we cannot afford to offer the class.

Classes that have an enrollment of 4 or fewer students are likely to be canceled for the spring semester. In certain cases we may be able to offer a class even with low enrollment. In most cases, however, we cannot afford to offer a class with enrollment below 5 students. Please be on the look-out for a message regarding class cancellation if your child's class has 4 or fewer students.

• If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment or teacher availability issues, you will have the option to enroll in another class and transfer your pre-paid May tuition to the new class OR drop the class altogether.
  
• If you choose not to enroll in another class your pre-paid May tuition payment will be applied to your account balance or a refund will be issued if your account is paid in full.

SPRING SUPPLY FEES

• Please be aware that Spring Supply Fees will be billed to your account in December.
• All classes will have some type of Spring Supply Fee. In some cases, it may only be $5. In other cases, it may be closer to amount of the fall Supply Fee. Please refer to the official class description on the ClassJuggler website for specific class fees.

Pine needles needed!

The pine trees are in the process of shedding their needles.  If you are bagging your pine needles for the trash, please bring them to us.  We need them to mulch around the playground, organic garden, and Habitat areas.
