Fall Preview Events

It seems that spring had barely sprung, but many families are already looking toward fall and planning their schedules. Our teachers and administrators have also been hard at work trying to come up with the very best class offerings possible for Fall 2014.

We have several Fall Preview events planned to help families get ready for the 2014-2015 school year. These events are designed to allow parents and students to meet the teachers, gather information about their classes and ask questions to help them determine the best classes for their needs.

A New Family Overview will also be presented during each event to help new families understand how our program works and to answer common questions.

Teachers will be set up with displays and information in the “large” portable from 6:30-8:30pm, and a New Family Overview will take place from 7:00-8:00pm in one of the portable rooms across the deck.

  • TUESDAY, MARCH 25th
  • TUESDAY, APRIL 8th
  • THURSDAY, APRIL 24th
  • WEDNESDAY, MAY 7th

Make your plans now to attend one of these informative events and be sure to bring a friend!

HCYA Gala Dinner and Dance

Please note that the event posted below is not sponsored by EE or affiliated with EE in any way. Please contact the event sponsor directly with any questions.

The HCYA Gala Dinner and Dance is fast approaching on Thursday, April 24th. The event is open to all high school homeschoolers and their invited guests.

2014 HCYA Graduates have the privilege to purchase until March 10th. After March 10th, sales are open to any high school homeschooler and their invited guests. HCYA will accept ticket purchases early for those not graduating in 2014 with HCYA, but we will not mail the tickets until after the March 10th 2014 graduate deadline, and your check will not be cashed until after March 10th as well. Please email the coordinator at gala@hcya.org for ticket prices and registration details.

Please do not feel that a "date" is needed to attend the gala. Groups of girls and groups of guys come every year with no dates, and they enjoy the dancing as well. We hope that you will enjoy the same event with your friends.

We also have a Facebook page that you can let your friends know about. On Facebook you can find the gala information under the name "HCYA (Homeschool Christian Youth Association) Annual Gala Dinner and Dance." We would appreciate it if you could "like" the event and help get the word out to others through the social media.

Please remember that any guests brought do not have to be homeschoolers, but they must agree to adhere to our guidelines. Please email the coordinator at gala@hcya.org for details.

We hope to see you April 24th!

Stanford Achievement Testing 2014

pencil_rolling_md_whtExtraordinary Education will again be hosting standardized testing for those families who choose to test.
Stanford Testing at EE is open to all area homeschoolers.
The results of this test are acceptable for entrance into Eta Sigma Alpha, the homeschool honor society. See below for costs and co-op expectations.

STANFORD Achievement Test 2014 (SAT)
MAY 19, 20 & 21 (MON, TUE, WED)
Daily test period: 9:00 am-noon

(Exact times will vary by day & grade level.)

stll_counting_girlPlease take some time to look over information about the test before registering. Basic testing information can be found on the BJU Press website: http://www.bjupress.com/testing/stanford.php

The Stanford Test will be ordered by families individually and administered as a group at the EE campus. The test results will be delivered directly to each family privately.

Please register for the Stanford Test at the link below:
www.sat2014.eventbrite.com
NOTE: Tests will be ordered by parents in April. This portion of registration is for space and personnel planning only.

COSTS
  • There is no Facility Fee for current EE students to take the Stanford test.
  • There is a Facility Fee of $10 per student for non-members to help cover utilities, paper goods and other expenses. Priority will be given to current EE students if space becomes an issue.
  • This test is being offered as a "co-op" activity. This means that the test administrators are NOT paid for their time and all testing families are expected to volunteer.
  • In order to provide this opportunity for our students we need parents to serve as testers and also fill other volunteer jobs. Please indicate your volunteer preferences when you complete the registration form. (Note: To be a tester you must have a college degree in any field and register with BJU as a tester. They also have a short video to watch that EE can provide.)
A separate email will be sent out to registered families with further information about the Stanford Test procedures and how to order the test for your child/children.

THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS MARCH 31, 2014.
Tests will be ordered in April.

(Please do not order any tests until you receive instructions!)
boy_math_md_wht_767
It is important to point out that standardized testing is NOT required in Texas. We offer testing to families as a way to help parents assess their child's progress and assist them in making curriculum and course choices.
It is also important to note that the "SAT" test we will be administering is NOT the same "SAT" test that students take for college entrance. That test is administered by the College Board, and it is only for high school students who are preparing for college entrance.

Please contact Extraordinary Education by email with any questions you may have about SAT testing. (extraed@att.net)

Spring Dinner Theater & Silent Auction

fiesta clip art | Fiesta Clip Art Word Art BannersOur second annual spring talent show/dinner theatre and silent auction, Fiesta ’14 is coming up on April 4th and 5th.  To make this year a great success, we need a lot of items/money donated!

19Do you know someone who owns a business who you could ask to donate an item or gift card?  Would you ask local businesses that you frequent to donate an item/money toward our auction?  Do you have a special talent or are crafty and would like to donate an item or gift certificate for some type of service?  Then we need you!!!

20Several of our teachers, classes and even parents are also in the process of creating gift baskets for the auction. If you have been contacted to help with a gift basket, please consider donating some items or funds to help make these baskets really awesome. Maybe you would even like to head up creating a basket yourself!

63If you would be willing to donate some time and effort to support our children’s education then please contact Linda Tindall to find out more and learn how you can help.  Linda can usually be found at the front sign in desk on Mondays and Wednesdays between 9:00-1:30.  Or you can call and leave a message for her at 281-652-5918.

A special donation request letter and a tax donation form are available from Linda if you will be soliciting donations.  We will also be looking for help with packaging gift baskets, organizing donations, setting up, and more. We greatly appreciate any and all help!
