The Family Camp–May 27-31

familycamplogoThe Family Camp May 27 - 31, 2013
www.thefamilycamp.org
The Family Camp is brought to you by some of the leaders of the most dynamic home education ministries in Texas and coordinated by the Family Directed Education Foundation (FDEF). We are happy to offer a dynamic camp for each member of your family, preschool through adult.

This Year's Camp Theme: I Am Third - God, Others, Self
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' — Matthew 22 : 37

Our family camp concept is as unique as the families who will attend. We have created a customizable system of "mini-camps" that will offer fifteen hours of specialized training in a skill. All mini-camps are designed specifically for families who have chosen home schooling and utilize camping as one mode of spiritual training and skill development.

Each member of the family will choose from one of the mini-camps offered and attend that mini-camp each day. Students 10 and up have many options including music, theater, debate, speech, apologetics and sports programs. Children ages 5 - 9 will participate in the "Kidz Zone" mini-camp. Ages four and under will be cared for in our Family Camp Nursery. Special training class for parents will be offered in the areas of parenting, education and marriage.

We have also scheduled plenty of recreation time for you to enjoy as a family or with other friends during afternoons. Some recreational activities include swimming in the pool, the ropes course, canoeing and taking a plunge onto the "Blob".

In the evenings all families come together for a time of worship, inspiration and Biblical exhortation. Families will have the opportunity to learn together in a positive, family-friendly environment and to deepen their faith in the Lord as they develop a better understanding of His character.

Please visit our website www.thefamilycamp.org to register for camp or for more information.

Christians today have acquired a bad reputation, intellectually. But we Christians, above all others, have a tradition of truth-seeking, strong minded, women and men earning their place at the cultural table. In order to inherit that legacy, we need to participate in it. In this intensive week-long class, you will get the opportunity to do just that. Beginning with St. Paul in Athens in Acts 17 and continuing until modern writers, we will cover the major reasons for and philosophic foundations of Christian thought.
God and Reason is a 6 day intensive day camp. Each day will begin at 9am and end at 4pm, with special events Wednesday and Friday evenings. Cost for the week is $200 per student.
God and Reason is open to all interested students and HIGHLY recommended for all students starting Great Books III this Fall.

OTC High School STEM Event Opportunity

Mr. Han, our BEST Robotics team sponsor, has received an invitation to bring a group of EE students to attend a High School STEM Event on May 9th at this year's Offshore Technology Conference.

Students will participate in hands-on energy exploration experiments provided by the US National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, meet industry professionals, and tour the latest state-of-the-art technology exhibits in a scavenger hunt. Lunch will be provided.

Students must be 15 years and older to take part in this free event on Thursday May 9th at Reliant Center. Only 200 students have been invited to attend this event, so it is a great honor and privilege to get to go. It is also an amazing opportunity for students to learn about technology and careers in the oil & gas industry.

If your student would like to be part of this select group, please contact Mr. Han to let him know. Send the name and age of your student to phan1357@yahoo.com by April 24th. We'll also need adults to chaperone the students at a ratio of 1 adult per 8 students. If you would like to chaperone, please let Mr. Han know as well.

Speech Tournament Judges Needed

banner72013 NCFCA Region 4 Invitational
Wednesday, May 1 -
Friday, May 3, 2013
Champion Life Centre
3031 FM 2920,
Spring, TX 77388

Click the link below to sign up to judge:
http://www.ncfcaregistration.com/NCFCAJudgeSelection.aspx?Region=4

Please consider the opportunity to judge at the NCFCA Region 4 Invitational on May 1-3. The season is almost over, and the top competitors are invited to compete at the Regional Invitational.  Over 150 students from across Texas and Oklahoma will be competing in this tournament which includes Lincoln-Douglas Value and Team Policy debate, as well as Interpretive (Humorous, Duo, etc.), Platform and Limited Preparation speech events (including Apologetics--which is like watching a 6 minute, in-depth sermon).

Judging is the best way to know if this is an activity that your family/children would benefit from, and you can bring your students with you to view the rounds you judge.

Over 430 community judges are needed to serve during this three day competition. Our students will be relying on your valuable feedback for improvement, growth and encouragement. No experience in either speech or debate is necessary.

Judging each round is a three hour commitment which includes a thirty minute judge orientation with complimentary meal, snacks and beverages. Arrival time and orientation is factored in to the time slot so there is no need to arrive early. You may choose to judge a single round on one day or multiple rounds over the course of the three day tournament.

We appreciate your interest in helping train students in their speaking skills so that they may rise up and represent our values someday!

I hope to meet you at the tournament, I hope you will see what an invaluable experience it is to attain this skill for your child and how students will use it for  a lifetime.  When they leave our nest, they will need to have examined the Word and have an "answer" for their faith and to the questions they will get at college or in the community.  Try to sign up to judge Apologetics, you will be impressed, I am sure of it.

For more information about the league, go to www.ncfca.org.

If you have further questions, feel free to contact Melanie Corley at region4judges@gmail.com.

Hope to see you at the tournament!
